Emily WalkerParticipantHi, my views dropped off a cliff overnight. Seriously, I went from a steady 20K-30K views per video to barely cracking 300 on my last three posts. Did I get totally shadowbanned? Nothing I post seems to be hitting the For You Page anymore.

Alex JohnsonParticipantHey, don’t jump to the shadowban conclusion just yet. That happened to me last week. It was brutal, but it wasn’t a ban. There’s been a known, major platform-wide algorithm recalibration—a lot of creators are calling it the “Mid-Q4 Slump.” First thing: check your analytics. Did your Average Watch Time or Audience Retention Rate drop significantly?

Emily WalkerParticipantYes, but, My retention usually sits around 42-45%. Now? It’s hovering at an abysmal 18%. It feels like people are swiping away instantly.

Sara denisParticipantThat steep drop in retention is the core issue. The algorithm is currently prioritizing instant value. It’s not just rewarding videos with high total watch time, but specifically those with the highest First-Second Retention. You have to hook the viewer before they can even consciously decide to swipe.
Actionable Fixes propositions:
• The 0.5-Second Hook: Replace your current intro with a micro-hook. Show the final result, the most dramatic moment, or the biggest surprise immediately.
• “Swipe-Stop” Movement: Ensure there is clear, sudden visual movement or text right at the start. For your makeup tutorials, show the “after” look flash on screen for a millisecond.
• Shorter Format Test: Temporarily shift to shorter videos, especially in the 7-12 second range. Shorter videos are easier to get into the 100% completion loop, which is a powerful signal to the current algorithm.December 4, 2025 at 2:56 pm #100000543
Maya bovParticipantthe algorithm also tightens up on topic specificity during these updates. Are you posting mixed content? If you usually do full glam, and suddenly posted a skincare routine, it might confuse the system. Stick to your core niche for the next 5 posts to help it re-classify your account.

Emily WalkerParticipantMy last video was a skincare haul instead of a makeup look, so that might have contributed to the confusion, plus my intros are always a little slow. I’m going to implement those 0.5-second hook and 7-12 second format tests immediately. Thank you all so much. This is actually helpful advice!
